The 2in5 Initiative continues to pick up momentum here in Joplin! If you need a refresher on what the 2in5 Initiative is and the work being done here in Joplin, please click here.
We had an outstanding summer working on six different homes within the two-mile radius of Journey Church. We repaired roofs, installed siding, and built awesome relationships with homeowners all over the neighborhood.
The great thing about something like the 2in5 is that the ministry doesn’t have to stop in the summer. There are exciting things we can be doing all year round to serve and love the neighborhood we are in. One of the ways Journey Church did this recently was with the Back to School Bash that took place a couple of weeks ago.
Over 110 kids from the neighborhood received a backpack filled with school supplies that ranged from notebooks to erasers. They also had the opportunity to get a free haircut, watch a movie, and hear the Gospel presented. One family even came to church the following Sunday!
This is the heart of the 2in5 Initiative. Home repair is awesome and a vital part of what we are doing here in Joplin. But the 2in5 Initiative wants to holistically transform this neighborhood and see its members radically transformed by the Gospel- construction is just one part of that process. The more opportunities we have to interact with our neighbors and share this good news, the better.
When we have big outreach events like this, it’s an opportunity to remind our neighborhood that Journey Church exists to serve and be a light. It’s a chance to meet tons of people and introduce them to Jesus and the church. It also provides a platform for us to share our desire to meet home repair needs and reach new homeowners for our summer construction.
Needs being met, relationships being built, Jesus being made known.
