Position Description:

You will have the opportunity to facilitate long-term relationships between incoming mission teams and local community partnerships. Each week, you will work directly with various organizations, nonprofits, and local churches to coordinate community engagement and development activities. Your job is to create a healthy and dynamic balance between the experience each mission team has in the community (opportunity for increased awareness, learning, and cultural engagement), with standards of empowerment, sustainability and local leadership within the community. As you serve alongside students, you will see students’ lives changed as they grow into a deeper understanding of God through serving in the community during the day and experiencing powerful programming each night.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a team of 8–10 other Summer Staff to effectively facilitate week-long mission trips
  • Maintain close contact and develop thriving relationships with community leaders and local partnerships 
  • Work with the Team Leader and incoming Youth Leaders to coordinate weekly involvement and engagement with the community
  • Facilitate student involvement within partnering organizations each week
  • Advocate for the community over the course of the summer in the way the Summer Staff and mission teams talk, interact, and engage with the community
  • Integrate Christian Community Development principles into the work week
  • Enhance effectiveness of short-term mission work (locally-led projects, empowerment, sustainability)
  • Facilitate daily prayer for the community among the Summer Staff and incoming youth groups
  • Participate in daily devos and nightly worship
  • Lead and participate alongside students at service projects daily
  • Contribute as a team player in all aspects of mission trip facilitation

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a believer in Jesus Christ and hold to Next Step's Statement of Faith
  • Previous missions experience
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Previous Next Step experience preferred but not required
  • Strong organizational and relational skills 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and give clear directions
  • Experience or education in community development
