Position Description:
As the Student Engagement Coordinator you will have the opportunity to serve students throughout week-long summer mission trips by creating meaningful experiences that challenge them in their faith while making them feel seen, known, and connected. You will be responsible for planning and leading engaging nightly activities that encourage students to build relationships with one another, reflect on their experiences, and grow in their faith. You will work closely with the Team Leader and Summer Staff to create a welcoming and Christ-centered environment where every student feels valued and included. A Student Engagement staff member’s ultimate responsibility is to help each student have a meaningful, memorable, and impactful mission trip experience.This position provides an opportunity to develop leadership, organization, problem-solving, and hospitality skills while serving alongside students and community members during daily work projects and mission activities.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead engaging nightly activities for students
- Create an environment where students feel seen, known, and valued
- Build meaningful relationships with students throughout the week
- Encourage students to connect with one another and participate in group activities
- Work alongside teammates and to support student engagement
- Help create a Christ-centered culture throughout the week
- Facilitate activities that encourage students to reflect on their mission trip experience and grow in their faith
- Pay attention to individual student needs and find ways to help each student feel included
- Communicate clearly with teammates, and youth leaders
- Participate in daily devos and nightly worship
- Lead and participate alongside students at work projects daily
- Create a fun, safe, and engaging work site atmosphere for students
- Be flexible and creative in adapting activities to the needs of each group
Qualifications:
- Must be a believer in Jesus Christ and hold to Next Step's statement of faith
- Experience working with middle school and/or high school students
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Creative, energetic, and comfortable leading groups
- Ability to build genuine relationships with students
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
